As I might have mentioned a time or two, there has been an item on my design wishlist for many years now-namely a rug from IKEA. Well guess what I finally brought it home to take it's rightful place in my family room! The Stockholm Rand rug is a perfect graphic black and cream statement piece that grounds the room, anchoring my new tree stump tables, It adds warmth and texture filling the void between my furniture. As you can tell I LOVE IT!!
Take a look at my new addition. . . . .
Over the years I have seen this cool rug in oodles of magazines, here are some examples I found to share with you. The Stockholm is a versatile rug that could be used in dining rooms, bedrooms, entry ways, anywhere you want to add that element of drama. Try mixing it with pops of colour, add great accessories and furniture to create maximum impact!
For a long, long time now I have been admiring a popular trend in all my favourite mags and books. Of all things I am talking about tree stumps! They are being used as side tables and stools in interiors and exteriors. Years ago when we first moved in to our current country home, my husband made us benches for around the fire pit out of stumps and planks. They have stood the test of time for eight years and provided seating for many get togethers. Well finally I decided I wanted to make a couple of stump tables for my family room. My in- laws saved me tree stumps when they had firewood cut, I let them dry out for a few months and then I set about removing the bark. This was harder than I thought! Once I got off as much as possible I sanded for my life ( for a whole week!) and when they were smooth I added a clear coat for protection. You could add a stain to even out the colour but I chose not to. I will admit they turned out to look a little different than some I had seen but as in nature different trees have their own look and character. So now do my own unique tables!

All I need now is the rug I dream of from IKEA to put with them. I visit my rug every so often but as of now it hasn't followed me home yet! What a shame we have to eat and drink and pay bills instead of shop!
