Recently I saw a beautiful lamp in a magazine and then realized it was available at Chapters one of my favourite regular haunts! It reminded me of lamps we had in homes and businesses in Britain growing up. These were the classic "Anglepoise" which have been around for over 70 years. They were designed by George Carwadine when he was working with a company called Terry & Sons in the early 1930's and he developed a theory for balancing weights using cranks, levers and springs. This then led to the production of the Anglepoise lamps used in industrial environments, which in turn followed up with using them in modern homes. They made a resurgance and are now a common sight in many new environments. Here is the example I saw in Chapters along with other great examples of this classic of British design.....

There are many great designs that continue to " enlighten" us and this is one of my favourites. It is nostalgic and yet current. Another all time classic.
