Last weekend while chatting with a friend who co-owns a great store showcasing mostly vintage, salvage and recycled items (Tin Barn Market) we both agreed that we like to mix it up! Creating a home with a combination of new and old is the way to go. A space with everything rustic or ultra modern can be too much. It's fun to add in the occasional conversation piece, something with a history or some sentimental attachment to a contemporary home or vice versa put in a sleek colourful modern piece of art say in a traditional house. My favourite look is vintage, modern. In my home I like to have family pieces, diy projects and some new pieces. I am trying to have a created over time look. Something that inspires me and makes me happy. Your home should definately say something about you and all the people you share it with. There are some great books available showing this successful mix of styles. You could change it up by painting an old piece of furniture in a bright colour, a quick updateHow about a vintage light fixture in a modern kitchen? In this age advanced technology why not bring in a funky yellow phone from back in the day!How about using antique or previously loved frames in a new way?A cool vintage movie poster would look great in any interior.Love these vintage decanters, talking point at your bar. Party piece!Maybe a sleek, clean lined sofa in a rustic room with reclaimed wood pieces. Why not use an old wooden crate to put your new magazines or toys in?Finally check out these successfully combined interiors. Now it's your turn to get out there and find something new or old to spice up your space . . . . .
