When I met my husband 22 years ago he had invested in good quality bedroom set he loved and of course over the years true to form I have managed to split it up and cut holes in it and re - use it! One thing we have never had is a headboard as the bed was a modern platform style. I knew that one day I would make one and had the idea ready in my mind however I'm afraid to say I have really been procrastinating with it. I started gathering the supplies about a month ago and with a final push from my crafting twin Lisa who has just launched a great new website by the way. ( www.dollaramadiva.com) I finally got it done!.
Step by Step
I cut the foam to size and glued it to the plywood. Then covered both with a double layer of batting and the pre-washed and ironed drop cloth. I used a staple gun to attach them, with the help of two other people to pull and tighten the fabric. I would not recommend doing this project alone unless you are an octopus! Then my son and I hammered in the nail heads to add the decorative detail. Final step hang the headboard on the wall for stability and also not to ruin the bed itself in case I change my mind! It's always possible. We used a special picture hanger designed to hold up to 200lbs which has two pieces. One part goes on the wall and the other on the back of headboard and they clip together.
