After a tragic fire in downtown Ottawa a family home was rebuilt combining traditional and modern aesthetics, my favourite being a reading room with floor to ceiling bookshelves. They have a modern look but you access the book collection by an antique ladder. Another home has an amazing open concept kitchen and dining area with stunning walnut floors and cabinetry. The highlights for me are the mid century modern chairs they found on e-bay and the Tom Dixon ceiling fixtures hanging like sculptural art above the table.
Tom Dixon is a British designer born in the late 50's. He specializes in lighting and furniture. If you have never seen his work prepare to be impressed! He combines beauty with function and creates art pieces.
